We are following the steps of Xelha and Xcaret, and others in the area, in helping as much as we can to minimize the trash and the impact that visitors have on the wild life of the Riviera Maya. With so many visitors in the past months, it is unbelievable the amount of trash produced from the restaurants alone. Our Municipality does not have the resources or facilities to process that trash properly, so we have start to eliminate the products that are most damaging , like straws, food containers, cups to go, bleach, cleaning chemicals, or any kind of chemicals that are not biodegradable.
We are using 100% biodegradable cleaning products for the restaurants and hotel. We are also using in addition to our treatment for residual waters, a special mix of biodegradable bacteria to eliminate grease from the water coming from the kitchens that produce a bad smell. This bacteria dies after the water gets to the treatment areas, so if any of this water should reach the ocean, it will not affect the reef and wild life.
Even though we provide more than enough trash containers on the beach, we still see trash in the mornings. This is another reason why we are no longer using straws, and our cups to go are now biodegradable. The food containers can be recyclable, and we will use aluminum paper to take leftover food home instead of boxes.
Our hand towels are made of recycled paper, and our hand soap is 100% biodegradable as well as the shampoo used in the hotel.
We also participate with the Akumal Ecological Association, CEA in their program to recycle as much as we can, glass, plastic, batteries, paper etc.
We take part in a program called MARTI, in which we educate our employees how not to waste valuable resources like water, energy and show them how to recycle properly.
It is our goal to become a green property, so next time you order a drink at the Lolha, you will be get an ice tea spoon to stir your drink, and no straws!
Thank you and saludos.
Thank you
